What Does This Treatment Include?

Commonly Asked Questions

How long is this session?

The session is 30 minutes for clogged ducts on one breast. The ultrasound treatment takes 10-15 minutes. The manual work another 5 minutes and then pumping/breastfeeding from the affected breast is another 10-15 minutes.

What if I have clogged ducts on both breasts?

This would take double the time explained in the question above. You will need to book an hour session specified as "Clogged Milk Ducts - Both Breasts"

Is the ultrasound treatment backed by research?

Yes! Research shows that therapeutic ultrasound at low intensities can be effective in clearing ductal obstructions by both softening hardened milk and stimulating better lymphatic drainage, leading to improved milk flow and symptom relief without invasive procedures.

How does the ultrasound treatment work?

Ultrasound treatment for clogged milk ducts works by using high-frequency sound waves to create gentle vibrations and heat within the tissue, which helps break up the blockage. The sound waves generate mechanical pressure that loosens milk stasis while also increasing blood flow to the area, reducing inflammation and promoting tissue healing.

Does the ultrasound treatment hurt?

Ultrasound treatment for clogged milk ducts is generally painless and well-tolerated. Most people describe the sensation as a gentle warmth or mild pressure. The procedure is non-invasive, and the settings are adjusted to ensure comfort while still being effective in clearing the blockage.

So should I bring my pump/baby to the session?

Ideally yes. You should aim to breastfeed or pump immediately after the session, ideally within 15-30 minutes. This timing ensures that the ducts remain open and any milk that was loosened during the treatment can be fully drained, maximizing the effectiveness of the therapy and reducing the risk of the duct becoming clogged again.

Can I sign up for this treatment if I have mastitis?

It depends. This treatment can be performed with mastitis as long as you have been on antibiotics for at least 24 hours.
